Ο εξωτικός Fly Geyser

Συντάχθηκε από Offroader.

Ο θερμοπίδακας με την ονομασία Fly Geyser, βρίσκεται στη Νεβάδα των ΗΠΑ.  Μοιάζει να βρίσκεται σε κάποιο άλλο πλανήτη ή έστω να είναι σκηνικό από μια ταινία επιστημονικής φαντασίας. Βρίσκεται σε ιδιωτική έκταση, ο διοκτήτης της οποίας απαγορεύει την είσοδο στο κοινό, παρά τις προσπάθειες διαφόρων οργανώσεων να αγοράσουν τη γη ή να επιτύχουν ένα συμβιβασμό.

Η ιστορία του θερμοπίδακα ξεκινά το 1916 όταν ο ιδιοκτήτης της έκτασης πραγματοποίησε γεώτρηση για νερό.  Πράγματι ένα πηγάδι άρδευσης δημιουργήθηκε και λειτούργησε για δεκαετίες.  Φαίνεται όμως ότι η γεώτρηση έφτασε πολύ κοντά σε μια κοιλότητα γεωθερμικής ενέργειας η οποία με το πέρασμα του χρόνου βρήκε δίοδο στην επιφάνεια.  Ετσι κοντά στο 1960 δημιουργήθηκε ο πρώτος θερμοπίδακας.  Τα εκπληκτικά χρώματα που τον περιβάλουν δημιουργήθηκαν με το πέρασμα του χρόνου και την παρουσία γεωθερμικής άλγης.
